Re: Addi Glunz's three Mustangs in two minutes (10 June 1944)

Thanks very much. Sorry to be a pain but do you happen to have any times and locations for these claims? It would help me narrow down the possible victor over the JG 26 machine

Also, may I ask what's your source for this data?

Re: Addi Glunz's three Mustangs in two minutes (10 June 1944)

No problem. No location given for the 356th. They were patroling in support of Patton's army - the FW 190s they bounced were all carrying bombs.
The 353d bounced 20 Fw 190s above Maintenon and were bounced by a large force , estimated 60 , of Fw 190s. This is all the information available. It comes from the Osprey Book " 354th Fighter Group " by William Hess.

Glad I could help - I forgot to mention that according to the book, these encounters on 8 - 16 took place in the afternoon.

Re: Addi Glunz's three Mustangs in two minutes (10 June 1944)

Thanks Mike!

I suppose the book doesn't go as far as to mention who was leading the flight of the 353rd FS by any chance?

If it's not to much to ask, does it mention when the 353rd FS adopted its final squadron colours? (the yellow nose - http://www.homestead.com/354thfighte.../NOSEART1.html)

Re: Addi Glunz's three Mustangs in two minutes (10 June 1944)

The 353d Flight leader was Lt. Charles Koenig. From what I can find , the yellow stripes were added just prior to the Group moving to France in early June. Hope this helps,
Mike

the gallery page. John C. Howell " Shoo Shoo Baby ". This is a great site !

Re: Addi Glunz's three Mustangs in two minutes (10 June 1944)

Nice profile! Interesting your dad flew Mustangs. Explains the nickname for sure

I'm in regular contact with Nick King and the Randall brothers. Unfortunately the Little Friends website doesn't deal with the 9th AF, which the 354th FG was part of. It's a great resource otherwise, with regular updates.
