Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)

Here is what information we have about the WWII Malapert:

MALAPERT-NEUFVILLE, Peter Ferdinand Freiherr von. (DOB: 11.02.22). 26.06.41 Lt., 7./JG 54. 30.06.41 Lt., 7./JG 54 MIA - Bf 109 force-landed in the area of Dünaburg - returned later. 11.09.41 POW - Bf 109 F-2 (White 1) shot down by MiG-3s in the area of Jan-Jedrow and captured - reputedly collaborated with the Soviets, writing leaflets to convince other pilots to desert. Postwar, he joined the Bundesluftwaffe, rising to Obstlt. †23.09.99. Credited with 5 victories.

As for the WWI Malapert, I can find nothing about him. I searched the WWI Aviation Website "The Aerodrome" and found nothing!

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)

Many thanks for your reply Doug, much of this i have already found.
I am still keen to discover whether he had any previous service prior to the Russian Campaign commencing June 1941.
Did he join from a training group?

Best regs,
Steve.

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)

Looking at his age (just over 19) my guess is he joined 7/JG 54 from training but whether this was prior to Barbarossa or just after is open to debate

Re: Peter Frhr. von Malapert (7./JG 54)

Morning Chris, im under the impression he may have perhaps joined from as you say, training.
Would it be possible to determine from his EKM No. 51576/24 when he was allocated to 7/JG54. Is this 7/JG54?

Best regs,
Steve.
