Re: 235 sqaudron crash 1945
Hello
I asked before and got some great replies but my post was deleted. I have read Andrew Birds book "a secret little war" and found that on the 23-3-1945 that mosquito RS575 crashed in Norway. The original post someone mentioned it was RS576 as seen on this link http://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/wiki.php?id=164397 S/L reid flew that aircraft that day. So is the serial 575 or 576? graeme |

Re: 235 sqaudron crash 1945
Graeme,
Also try this link: http://www.airhistory.org.uk/dh/_DH9...odn%20list.txt It says it was RS576. On another site I found that (crew of) RS575 claimed a victory in the night of 24/25 April 1945, so later than RS576 was lost. Regards, Leendert |

Graeme
My copy of the Andrew Bird's book is named A Seperate Little War. I also believe the RS575 is a printing error and should read RS576 as Leendert already stated. Cheers Stig |

Re: 235 sqaudron crash 1945
It was indeed RS576/VV-W that was shot down by flak on 23 March 45. 12 aircraft from 235 Sqn. with Mosquitos from 143 and 248 Squadrons attacked shipping in Dals Fjord. Squadron Leader Reid and his navigator, Flying Officer Turner who led the force was seen to crash in to the sea after attacking a motor vessel of 4000-5000 tons. Ref: AIR 27/1444 235 Sqn. ORB, AIR 25/382 18 Group ORB 1945.

Re: 235 sqaudron crash 1945
Apologies about the anomalies with regards the serial numbers, should be able to put this right with a new publication on ASS Mosquitoes due out next year.
Kind Regards Andy Bird |

The Mosquito of Reid/Turner was probably hit by the 88 mm from the Vorpostenboot. |

Re: 235 sqaudron crash 1945
Yepp! Forgot 333 Squadron. One Mosquito acted as outrider and three Mosquitos were fighter escort for the strike force.
