It looks after all like half of what Shores says in Fledgling Eagles is correct.
The German details must have been researched by co-author Heinrich Weiss and the 2./606 code 8L+EK must be what he had listed at the time.

I have no way of evaluating the individual code 'E', but 8L+xK fits....
