Re: 1944 loss Bf 109 Wnr 20505 JG1

Hans,

I checked my records but can not find a 100% answer. At least the following is clear;

21.2.1944, 15.15 hrs, Bf 109G-6, 410141, gelbe 5, 9./JG 1
Uffz. Helmut Sainisch, geb. 05.01.1920 killed
Shot down over IJsselmeer, washed ashore near A'dam, now Ysselsteyn CT-9-221.

31.1.1944, Bf 109, 9./JG 1, 45% Bruch near Ressen, 6 km N. Nijmegen
Uffz. Helmut Sainisch, slightly injured.
There were several crashlandings on 31.1.1944 so this must be one. Sainisch was injured and flew again on 21.2.1944 when he was killed.

Early Feb. 1944, between Arnhem-Nijmegen, Bf 109G-6, WNr. 20505, white 5, 7./JG 1. Three vic markings, 1 British, 2 USA.

Difficult but this should be a 7./JG 1 a/c as these had white numbers. Stab III./JG 1 is possible too, but i would expect higher number (20+).

7./JG 1 had one pilot with two US-kills by that date (Uffz. Wilhelm Kräuter), maybe he claimed a British one also, but this was not awarded?

Hptm. Siegfried Luckenbach of Stab III./JG 1 had three victories by that date, one UK and two US but not in the sequence as indicated on the drawing....

My guess would be a crashlanding on 30.1.44 or 31.1.44.

Cheers,

John
