13 November 1940, 22.48 hours, crash near Willerzell am Sihl-See Do 17 Z-3, W.Nr. 2663, U5+DL, 3./KG 2. Entered Swiss air space from the north at 22.37, with its nav. lights on. Seen at 2000 m over Deldbach, Lake Zürich, heading toward Etzel. North of Einsiedeln it turned north, flew over the Sihl-See and losing height, crashed at a shallow angle on the Hirzegg [a hill]. A/c broke up completely, having brought down 120 fir trees. Investigators found the fuel tanks empty and the port prop feathered, suggesting engine failure. No battle damage. No crew. Maps of Southern England. Wreckage returned to German, 22 Nov.
