Strange bird emblem on He111 KG4

Hi I have a photograph of a Heinkel 111 in flight thats credited to be 5J+JP of 6/KG4.
The photo was taken during the Polish Campaign and appears to show an unknown to me!
Insignia of a strange winged bird similar to an ostrich.
Can anybody confirm such an insignia, perhaps you may have a similar photo?
I don't have a scanner so I can't show this particular photograph.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Steve.

Re: Strange bird emblem on He111 KG4

Steve,

I have two photos of 5J+JP in the EoE DB from 1939, one with major flak damage to the fuselage, probably on 17.09.39, and the other in a hangar circa 11.39. The ""bird" emblem isn't visible on either.

You never replied to my suggestion about how we could get scans of some of your photos. This sounds like an interesting one.

Regards,

Re: Strange bird emblem on He111 KG4

Hi Larry, thanks for your reply and interest in 5J+JP.
It would appear I have the same picture you have, with extensive damage shown to the centre of the fuselage, I don't have the hangared one though.
The photo I have showing the insignia came from a Polish website of which I didn't keep any source detail, the clarity is not great but you can just make out this unusual insignia.
If I can find the source I will let you know.
I have not seen any insignia on II/KG4 a/c so I don't whether this is a unit insignia or a personal one.
Kindest regs,
Steve.
