Hello,

Does anyone have any ID info for this British a/c apparently crashed in Germany in July, 1940, reportedly a Handley Page Hampden.

Re: Seeking ID of crashed Hampden in Germany 07.40.

There are lots of questions to be answered before one can really try to check it from British Bomber Command losses of July 1940 and also to find corresponding German claims of July 1940. The photo text states that it was "abgeschossen Juli 1940" - shot down July 1940, so this should be one of those German claims which has been verified by the wreck finding during July 1940. But that does not help us much.

Further questions:
Was the plane shot down over France or Germany (location)? Exact date? Who shot it down - flak or LW fighter? And in what is the identification of plane based - could it actually be something else than Hampden?

Without that info it is almost impossible to find any further ID.

Btw, there seems to be available a detailed book covering all RAF Bomber Command losses in 1940: http://www.aircrewremembered.com/boo...srefbooks.html
