Help wanted for markings and serial of 151 sqn defiant

Hi All,
I'm building a model of a defiant which shot down a Do17 of 7.KG2 over Corby in Northamptonshire February 4th 1941. Does anyone have information on the serial number and the codes of this defiant

I know its 151 sqn and was crewed by the pair Sergeants H.E Bodien and E.C Jonas

Regards
Nigel

You can get the relevant pages from the National Archives. I am in touch with Bodien's daughter but before he died, he destroyed all photos, documents and his logbook.

Re: Help wanted for markings and serial of 151 sqn defiant

Thanks Chris,

I downloaded the combar reports but they don't mention the actual aircraft. I was hoping someone might know more

This morning I've found out it was N3387. (They must have used this aircraft regularly as Bodien and Jonas bailed out of it in August 41! )

We know 151 codes were ZZ so I just to know the aircraft letter

Anyone got any ideas

Regards
Nigel

You can also download the F540 Operations Record Book from the NA as well as combat reports. However whether the codes are noted I do not know

Re: Help wanted for markings and serial of 151 sqn defiant

By May 41 N3387 was DZ-E, in the month the compiler of the ORB (AIR 27/1018) got a rush of blood to the head and starts putting the code a well as the s/n on Form 541.

If you go with -E you run the risk that N3387 was coded differently in Feb 41

Nigel, I'm curious where you got the info that Bodien bailed out of N3387?
According to the Air-Britain book on N serials, this aircraft served in No. 10 Air Gunnery School and was SOC on 23.08.43.

N3378 not N3387

N3387 10/04/1941 : only Sgt Jonas baled out
