Larry and Kutscha... Further research on my end uncovered The Mission Report for November 29th which reports that the 8th AF intercepted what they describe as ZG radio traffic that they interpreted as probably ZG 26 flying out of Hesepe.. They estimated 20 a/c.

Icare9... My father was more aware and concerned with the AAA damage than the fighter damage. All four engines were out and control systems badly damaged. They were essentially a big heavy glider heading deeper into Germany. Dad decided it was time to go. They dropped their bombs at 14:41... The fighter reported the B-17 down at 14:52... 11 minutes.
