Bf-109G from KG(J) 55 ?

Hello,

At Horrido facebook i think we can see behind a Ju-87 D or G, a Bf-109G with the emblem of KG(J) 55 unit. But where this picture was taken ?

Re: Bf-109G from KG(J) 55 ?

Thanks for this excellent picture, Lumabe

After checking, it is indeed our well known Bf 109 G'14 W.Nr. 464 534 "Gelbe 25" from KG(J) 55, seen at Pilsen in May 1945. You have another pic taken from a different angle of the very same machines, including the Fw 190 S-8 in the background, published by Mark Proulx in WOTBC 2011, p. 13.

Cheers
Marc

Re: Bf-109G from KG(J) 55 ?

Thank you very much Marc-André.

On the book: "Luftwaffe over czech territory 1945" Japo edition, three pictures show the Bf-109 G-14 Yellow 25 page 224 with this text:

" Three pictures of a most interesting Bf 109G-14, "Yellow 25". Note the emblem on the engine cowling - it closely ressembles the KG 55 insigna. It might have flown with KG(J) 55 earlier. On the other hand. Note the horizontal white stripe under the 25 which is similar to the Gruppe marking as utilised by JG 51. The aircraft was probably frequently transferred from one unit to another. The second photograph shows the Fw 190A mentioned earlier ( see page 29 ) in the background. The remaining picture offers a front view of the aircraft and the spinner spiral. The insigna on the cowling is well visible."

The pages 222 to 227 were include on the I./Erg.KG(J) chapitre. Well, the authors estimate this plane "Yellow 25" was used by this unit at this time.

The Ju-87G-2 in the foreground was the WNr 494200 with the yellow bands on the engine cowling and on the rudder without call letters.

Best regards,

Lumabe.
