Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
Hello,
The second photo shows a prototype of Me 262 (V555), in a "bombardment" version. On May 8, 1945 his pilot, Oblt. Benz, took off from Saaz airfield at 7:55 p.m. to voluntarily land (belly landing), 30 minutes later, on the too short runway of the American-occupied Weimar-Nohra airfield. In addition to the pilot, the Me 262 carried two other aviators, slipped into the glass nose of the plane: Ofw. Olbroth and Ofw. Karl Nitschke, both from Aufklärungsgruppe 100 (1. (F) / 100). Can you explain what you mean by "bombardment" version in reference to this aircraft? In the nose section, there were mounted two unusual "antennas." Do you know anything about these? Best, Ed |

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes
V484 and V555 were converted to a bomber with a cabin in the nose for an extra bombardier who lay in a supine position, flying the aircraft during the final approach. V555 was converted in January 1945, test flights began in February. Besides the glass nose, a new autopilot, the 'Baldrian' acoustic radar and windshield heating was tested.
