P38 shot down in france onn 9 august 1944
Good morning to each of you,
in order to identify an unknown crash site, I would love to receive the list of the P38 missing in action on 9th august 1944 in the North of France. I am grateful in advance for that. GC |

Gilles, if you go to this page, you can at least get a list of P-38s missing on 9 August with the Groups and serial numbers. Not all of them will be in Northern France of course, but it's start:

Re: P38 shot down in france onn 9 august 1944
Cargill in 42-104093 was on 8th August and forced landed at St Pierre-du-Mont/A1 due to engine failure.
I have Keller in 43-28377 going down in Germany at Leopoldshafen - 10 Km North of Karlsruhe. Burns is a possibility - I overlooked that one and he went down in the St Poix area (near Moraine?) according to my list but as it was a droop-snoot, it should be easily identifiable if wreck recovery is in the offing! I think you will find that your Moraine should be Mortaine but still quite a way from St Poix. Peter |

Thanks to you all,
we think of "Mortain", which is in Normandy as well. A trip is planned in the next days in the area, to look for further data (or parts? in the farms around, who knows) and try to better understand, if we find, I'll let you know; Txs again and cheers GC |
