Re: He115 Wrk.No. 1866 damaged 4 June 1942
This aircraft had just completed overhaul or repair at the Luftwaffe Works at Aalborg, Denmark when it was collected by a crew of Küstenfliegerstaffel 1./906. During the flight from Aalborg to the units home station at Stavanger-Sola-See on 4. June 1942, it had to fight off an attacking Bristol Blenheim. After landing no less than 90 bullet holes were counted in wings and fuselage. It was sent to the Bachmann repair Works in Horten, Norway, for repairs and was reported stored there as reserve for 1./406 on 12. June 1943.
W.Nr. 1866 was originally delivered by Heinkel as a He 115B but after the MK404 nose gun had been installed, the designation changed to He 115B/C.
It was finally lost 100% when reported missing South-West of Röst island on a recce flight from Sörreisa seaplane station in Northern Norway on 4. October 1943, then as K6+MH of Küstenfliegerstaffel 1./406 (LT). It was shot Down by four Wildcats of VF-4 squadron US Navy during Operation "Leader". The 3-man crew was reported missing:
Hptm. Christian Fischer (B + Staffelkapitän)
Ofw. Friedhelm Schulz (F)
Fw. Heinz Geyer (Bf)
