Werner Klumper I/KG26

Hi guys

Major Werner Klumper was Kdr of I/KG26 in 1942.

Was he a pilot or observer?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Werner Klumper I/KG26

Ah!

As leader of I/KG26, do we know if he would have been piloting a He111 during the attacks on Convoy PQ18 in September 1942? Or acting in the observer role?

Cheers
Brian

Re: Werner Klumper I/KG26

He was fully trained for both roles. You have to get access to his logbook to find out if he acted as a pilot or observer on a specefic date.

Re: Werner Klumper I/KG26

Thanks guys

All that I was trying to establish is, that leader of a formation of some 20 He111s about to attack the large convoy, would Klumper likely to have been piloting or acting in his role of leader, observer and controller of the attack.

Apparently we don't know. OK.

Cheers
Brian

Re: Werner Klumper I/KG26

That makes sence. The BO was the boss of the plane, the pilot was just the driver
