KG 26 He111 Colour home movie - Summer 1940

Believed to have been shot in the Summer 1940 in France.

The sequence begins with the packing of aircrew parachutes and inflatable dinghies; although carried as standard, may suggest over channel ops?

No idea as to the air base but the He 111s which are being bombed-up/taxing and taking off have under fuselage hard points.

Also featured are yellow nosed 109s and other bomber types, plus the aftermath of a rather nasty He111 crash.

Hope is of interest.

Re: II/KG 30 Colour home movie - Aalborg May 1940

What is of interest to me are the other RK winners in the movie-Hptm Claus Hinkelbein (Gr Kdr II./KG 30) and Ofw Willi Schultz of 6./KG 30 both of whom were awarded the RK 19 Jun 40

Re: KG 26 He111 Colour home movie - Summer 1940

Hallo,
Thanks for sharing. It is always very interesting to see "new" color footage.
The french town (harbourg) at the end of the film is probably Saint-Malo in Britany.
Regards.

The quality is poor, but the Geschwader code on at least one of the a/c looks like 1G - wouldn't that make it KG27?

I think you are right Peter as this would tie into the Saint Malo footage. A wiki search threw up II/KG27 being based at Dinard, Brittany from July to September 1940.

2./JG77 Colour home movie - Johannes Trautloft August 1939

This is a unique colour home movie lasting around 30 minutes which was taken of 2nd Staffel JG 77 at Breslau shortly before the invasion of Poland.

Shot on American Kodachrome instead of the inferior Agfacolor it must rank amongst the best quality footage shot of an Me109E squadron. Amongst the film are sequences of briefings and mock takeoff plus general squadron activity of arming and servicing the aircraft. Highly recommend watching.
