Re: Jabo staffel JG 27
natttuppen, thanks again.
Google translate leaves me thinking this set of photos are of Jabogruppe Afrika and later. An older thread from here seems to confirm that both jabo units from JG 27 and 53 would still be referred to as such, even when absorbed by the larger formations. http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=49033 It is still possible that the JG 27 staffel in question, adopted the bomb over Africa during it's first four months of existence, since it pretty much was stationed at the same airfields of JG 53's jabo. http://www.ww2.dk/air/jagd/jg53.htm http://www.ww2.dk/air/jagd/jg27.htm --------------------- I'm guessing the emblem sidney introduced to us was a very early design, and at some point was dropped in favour of the bomb over Africa motif? I did find an emblem for I./Schl. G. 2 where Jabo JG27 would eventually reside. It is a black stylized bird over a red diamond, it's image can be seen here at top of page: https://www.asisbiz.com/Luftwaffe/sg2.html Only sidney, though can offer if there is any relationship between the two bagdes - replace black bird with white and turn it on it's head for diving orientation?? regards, Jack |
