Re: USAAF sorties over Romania June/July 1944
Only on June 11,44 Uffz Stengl 8./JG52 shot down Fort "Cesspool Cedric" from Poltava, SSE of Focsani , which by the way was also claimed by Lipfert and Romanian ace A.Serbanescu , I can not see any B-24's or other Forts bought down by Stengl during June or July 44 nor any details on Oblesser .The relevance of the victory does not
lie into the loss of a single B-17 brought down by him or by his JG52 friends enroute from Poltava to Romania but the capture of the footage from Lt.McKay body (CCU1) a photographer attached to this mission by CCU1 in Bari, who took on board and without permission from the Soviets aerial fotage of Poltava taken by him some time prior departure to Romania which later on led to the Luftwaffe precision bombing of Poltawa known later on as the the "Poltawa Disaster " Alex K Last edited by researcher111; 24th September 2018 at 14:59.
