Re: Saburo Sakai

Frank

In your claims by US Navy you list VF-50 as making a huge number of claims off Iwo Jima. Bataan must be a slip of the pen, right??

Re: Saburo Sakai

Stig,
VF-50 was based on CVL-29 Bataan from April to July 1944. They were no where near the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines.

I have edited my initial post to hopefully add some clarity.

Or have I misunderstood your question?

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: Saburo Sakai

In his Action Report Adm. J.J. Clark notes that TG58.1 claims for enemy aircraft destroyed on 24 June, 114, exceeded those for the 19th (the day of the so-called Turkey Shoot), 109.

Re: Saburo Sakai

The upcoming OSPREY volume will feature the Zero aces of the first half of the Pacific War. I assume these are much more numerous than the Zero aces of the second half of the Pacific War which will be be featured in a later volume.

Who do you think is the most successful A6M ace by officially confirmed victories (not necessarily verified by losses; shared counted as decimals) notwithstanding that it's difficult to talk about 'officially confirmed' Japanese kills.
Sakai ? Nishizawa ? Sugita ? Iwamoto ?

Have a nice evening,

Michael
