Re: 349 Sqn Jun 1944
This has been quite useful, but might I add a few requests?
Service numbers: Van Molkot Bragard Moureau Full name: Paul Albert Jules D Siroux Full name and service numbers: J Moreau (not Moureau) D Clarke Denis A Smerdon And I seek clarification on one name: Jean Ester, 127452. I have him as claiming a damaged Bf 109 on July 26, 1944 as a F/O. But I also have him with 350 Sqn as a Sgt, making claims in 1942, but POW on August 16, 1942. Did the 350 Sqn Ester escape and go to 349 Sqn? Or do we have two different (Jean) Ester pilots? Enjoy! Frank.

Re: 349 Sqn Jun 1944
Frank,
Check out my previous post regarding the service numbers for Bragard, Moureau and Van Molkot. Moreau de Melen, Jean Fernand René Gérard (138884) http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/belgium_moreau.htm Smerdon, Denis Anthony (1478913) per AIR 78 Clarke, Douglas Forrester, DFC, CdG Belge (AFC post war) (NZ417018) http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/war-me...otaph%2Fsearch Also from Johnnie Houlton's book Spitfire Strikes (page 192): "It was about this time that 349 (Belgian) Squadron was short of experienced sub-section leaders, and Doug Clark (sic) was seconded from 485 Squadron to fly with the Belgians. He had an enjoyable short tour, sharing the destruction of a FW 190; and the Belgian Command marked their appreciation of his efforts by awarding him the Belgian Croix de Guerre." Re: 349 Sqn Jun 1944
Frank,
Also as for Jean Ester, he did in fact escape and returned to the UK on 30.04.43; later being posted to 349. http://www.350sqn.be/biography/Ester%20Jean.htm Tom |
