Re: Looking for Crew of Costal Command Hudson AE571

Are the dates and unit number correct?

288 Sqn don't record a loss overseas on that date, and they were an Anti Aircraft Co-Operation unit.

Re: Looking for Crew of Costal Command Hudson AE571

German Documents report the loss as follows:

"Besatzung 5 Neuseeländer, Kennung D Kok. RP A571"

Crew 5 New Zealanders, Code D-RP A571

RP belongs the Squadron 288, Serial could be AE571 which match a Hudson III.
288 Sqd. flew Hudson III.

May AE571 was loan to an other Squadron?

Date is correct, comes from the same German source.

Jabo

Re: Looking for Crew of Costal Command Hudson AE571

Hello,

Hudson III AE571 was never delivered to the RAF, it was transferred to the USAAF.

For the sake of accuracy - No.288 Sqn did suffer a loss on 27 July 1942. F/L Barnes crash-landed Hurricane X P5179 at Duxford and sustained concussion - P5179 was a write-off.

Hello,

No.75 (NZ) Sqn lost two Wellington III's on a raid on Hamburg on the night of 26/27 July, 1942. They were X3714:AA-W (6 RNZAF missing), and Z1596:AA-K (4 RNZAF killed, 1 RAF POW)*. Possibly one of these aircraft.
