Nice shot (and site!)
Don't know if it is possible to say if Elssler had his own assigned D.III or not. His log book obviously survived and it seems he flew an endless number of D.III. 53.51 was just one of them Cheers Stig

Hi Stig,
Agree with that. Seems most KuK flyers flew more than one machine, and I imagine that's no different in Elssler's case even if further reading seems to indicate that technically Alarmberetschaft Pergine lasted only between July and September 1917, I still wouldn't be surprised if he had more than one mount.
