Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft
Looks quite like the prototype alright
I confess I have for some time now wondered if this seller includes the pens when you have clinched a deal with him?..... ![]() Cheers Stig |

Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft
Hi Stig,
Yes, with my lack of knowledge of US military aircraft of the era, several edits were necessary until I noted the text with the helpful serial number. ![]() With regard to the pens, the quality of the pen needs to improve if the attempted bribe is to be successful. I might be cheap, but not that cheap ![]() Regards, Clint |

Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft
Speaking of youth, upon seeing the GMB photos, I had a wistful moment when I recalled the Kenneth Munson books, the ones with the profiles showing in one half the machine from the underside, and the other half the upper side of the aircraft, these beeing the first aircraft books I had and the first time I saw a GMB. Still got the book somewhere, but never unpacked it along with many others when I moved here.

Re: Photos USAAS Aircraft
Hi Guys
Clint found a photo here https://www.ebay.com/itm/1910s-1920s...IAAOSwVNxgQBiZ and just because its been around for some time, didn't think it was good enough to post. I differ, since this time the photo is very well reproduced on e-bay and it also shows a quite interesting Standard (Fisher Body built) SJ-1 It shows one of three SJ-1 converted at Wright Field to take the Curtiss OX-5 engine. The seller seems to be so focused on the photographer that he cannot see the forest because of all the trees. Aircraft is no JN-4 and not even a J-1 as given by Baugher on his site (no such designation actually existed) The use of another SJ-1's rudder also adds to the dimension. All-in-all a very nice photo! I exchanged the one I already had and downloaded to this one!! Cheers Stig |
