Re: Photo LVG B.I
Stig,
There are a few Bavrian LVG B.I with the number on a white rectangle, especially LVG B.I (Ot) aircraft and a simialar marking on the fuselage at least on a Pfalz in Jack herris volume on Pfalz aircraft, so I wonder if the serial on a white rectangle was the standard form og marking for Bavarian aircraft before joining the Idflieg system. It would be nice to have a list of Bavarian aircraft serials in order to track down other machines to see if the same styling appears elsewhere. As you're in Munich.... I wonder if such a list has already been published somewhere, Bavarian related documentation appears to have survived somewhat better than its Reich equivalent.Regards, Clint |

Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of crashed LVG B.I at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/X5643-Foto-W...4AAOSwa9NfujAC Serial appears to begin B.24* and /15 seems likely for the year, but other possibilities exist: http://www.frontflieger.de/fflgfoto/3_314111_p04.jpg Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo LVG B.I
Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of LVG B.I B.906/14 of FEA 10 following a crash at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/8R-Doppeldec...4AAOSwh4BgLuuL The same aircraft can still be seen in post #15 of this thread (still viewable). Not sure if its the same incident of the aircraft was just 'much crashed', in any event it provides me with the opportunity to correct the unit as given in post #15 (hopefully I just missed the 0 because the location and unit are obvious). Regards, Clint |

Re: Photo LVG B.I
Quite an interesting comparison Clint
If it is the same incident, the postcard from your post 15 is stamped 12 Mai 16, while the postcard from the present post states this incident happened 12 Juni 1916. The latter postcard itself is not stamped, only the envelope it was inside (date looks like 27.8.17, which makes it a bit irrelevant). Now if a postcard is dated 12 May, the first incident must have been some time before that since I cannot believe a photo was taken, negs rushed to the printer, postcard made and sent off the same day. So it looks like two incidents, similar fashion.... Cheers Stig |
