Re: Wreck of a FW 190
Unfortunatelly, this most unique time capsule was destroyed due to someone's snobbery. From the preservation and historical point of view it is a crime.

Re: Wreck of a FW 190
Christer
The aircraft was in remarkable condition and virtually untouched since it was downed. As such, it was a mine of information on every aspect of production and service of such aircraft. It is extremelly hard if not impossible to find a combat aircraft of WWII in untouched, original condition, apart of few recent remarkable finds. Rebuilt to flying condition means destroying the original substance, and I have noted that the rule is the original airframe is usually not even documented by means of photos or reports! As such it is a crime of destroying historical materiel and I believe there are such paragraphs in law of several countries. |

Re: Wreck of a FW 190
Franek,
that's what I thought you meant. I actually blieve(d) that documenting the site of recovery as well as the aircraft was normal procedure. After recovery, even if it is not rebuilt to flying condition, an "overhaul" to secure its longtime survivability would also remove the originality, at least to some extent and something has to be done. Thanks, Christer |
