Re: info wanted about Johnnie Johnson over Dieppe
The link, http://www.wings-fine-arts.com/johnniejohnson.htm
is most interesting. However, J.E. Johnson was NOT the leading Allied Ace of WWII, several USSR aces exceeding that score (they were "allies" back then), to say nothing of Richard Bong with 40. |

Re: info wanted about Johnnie Johnson over Dieppe
Hi,
Just to confirm what has already been said, I have the details for 19 August 1942 from the 610 Sqdn ORB and Johnson's Combat Report, as follows: 07:40 - 09:10, Johnson flew Spitfire VB EP.254 -B, claiming one FW 190 destroyed, sharing an Me 109 destroyed with PO Smith and F/Sgt. Creagh, and damaging an FW 190. 11:20 - 12:55, Johnson flew Spitfire VB EP.254 -B, making no claims. 14:00 - 15:20, Johnson again flew Spitfire VB EP.254 -B, making no claims despite firing at two FW 190s from long range.
