No Joe, "Ein Deutscher Soldat" refeers to Egon itself. At this time he was flying a Bf 109G from JG 76. Many Zerstörer pilots had their units disbanded and some of them joined the single engined fighters. Most interesting that Egon Albrecht and Wolfgang Ortmann where at ZG 1 at same time on Russian front. Who knows they meet toghether?

On 25 August 1944, Albrecht was forced to break-off a mission because of engine problems. Returning to his base he was intercepted by USAAF P-51 fighters. In the subsequent action, Albrecht was shot down in Bf 109 G-14 (W.Nr. 460 593) “Black 21” over St Claude near Creil. Albrecht managed to bale out of his stricken aircraft but was dead when found on the ground.

It seems that P-51's pilots killed him while he was in parashute... Very often thing with USAAF pilots.

I guess it may be a location in the "German mapping system" (Planquadratt if I´m not wrong) Not being a "specialist" in any field I hope someone can confirm this and help to identify the places.

It looks I will have to rewrite Egon´s article and that´s good. History means learning again and again and even changing concepts and wrong statements.

Eugen, on your first search on this site, you will have to fill an (Internet) form about you, that is where the above fields should be filled. The assocaition used it to send me mails (postal, not Internet) asking for money but once every 2-3 years IIRC.

Then you will have access to the search engine of the webiste, that only need the three first letters of the name to do a research, but can be completed by given name, date of death, date or birth, etc...
