Re: The Rise and Fall of the German Air Force (Air Ministry Pamphlet)

Andy,

I downloaded it as well as the other AHB WW2 researches.
None of them seem to have authors listed. It seems that in UK secrecy was in some ways stricter than in the USSR. At least in Soviet classified researches the authors were always mentioned.

Best regards,
Andrey

In some ways it still is but I wouldn't be surprised if compiling this document was just a job handed to some RAF desk people or civil servants and nobody thought the authors need be credited. It would quite possibly be seen as the work of a department rather than individuals.

What's REALLY interesting about The Rise and Fall of the German Air Force as a 1948 publication, is that it directly quotes (without quotation marks) paraphrased ULTRA intelligence, as now found in the DEFE 3 series at The National Archives.

British Air Ministry Phamphets never attributed authorship, other than sometimes the originating agency.

While it is clear upon reading that Ultra was used, the presence of direct quotes is surprising.

Who was the head of AHB in 1947-48?

Re: The Rise and Fall of the German Air Force (Air Ministry Pamphlet)

Hi Andrey,

if you look at the cover of the original 1948 publication, it was issued by the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Intelligence) of the Air Ministry.

The then ACAS(I) wrote the foreword to the book - Air Vice-Marshall Sir Thomas Elmhirst, KBE, CB, AFC.
