Obstlt Wolf-Dietrich Meister, KG51
Hello,
I am looking for information about Obstlt Wolf-Dietrich Meister, who was the Kommodore of KG51 in summer and fall 1944, while Major Schenk was subordinated to him as Einsatzkommandeur KG51. As far as I know Oberstlt. Meister was not so dedicated to his job and hence, he was ordered back to the Generalstab. However, I don’t know the details for his dismissal. Does anybody know more? Is there any publication that has more information about Wolf-Dietrich Meister (especially during the period Mai to December 1944). Kind regards Roger Gaemperle |

Re: Obstlt Wolf-Dietrich Meister, KG51
A friend of mine is currently researching the history of the Congolese air force and there are many odd angles. Among other things, one of their first instructors was a German pilot who used Wilhelm Stahl as an alias, because he was in the Congo as an agent of the BND. That was Wolf-Dietrich Meister, former Kommodore of KG 51. According to my friend.

Re: Obstlt Wolf-Dietrich Meister, KG51
Hi Roger
I have Meister(D.O.B 12.05.1908) as Kommandeur of I./KG 51 from 10th October 1943 until he became Kommodore of KG 51 from 25th February 1944 until 4th December 1944, yet strangely his 4th claim(3rd confirmed) on 31st March 1944 was a B-17 with I./KG 51. On 5th December 1944 I have him becoming the last Kommandeur of III./NJG 4 and surviving the war. Kind Regards Johannes P.S Previously with AG 125, LKS.Wildpack-Werder, 2./KG 252, 1./KG 2 KFS.Thorn,SG 101, I./KG 101 then Kommandeur of V./KG 2(though his three other claims were with 14./KG 2,two confirmed) during this period. |

Re: Obstlt Wolf-Dietrich Meister, KG51
He was never Gr Kdr of V./KG 2 as he went from 14./KG 2 to St Kap 14./KG 2 and then in a metter of a week or so Gr Kdr of I./KG 51 as his predecessor had been sacked. He was Stellv Kommodore of KG 51 before becoming Kommodore. I will go through what I have with dates in a day or so

As to being removed from his post, there is no mention apart from he was transferred to the Reserve only to take command of NJG 2 2 months later. It was Hptm Ludwig not Obstlt Wolf-Dietrich Meister who took command of III./NJG 4 Last edited by Chris Goss; 3rd November 2024 at 15:07. |
