Maj. Emil Omert papers
I wonder, if anyone is aware of any papers of Maj. Omert like log book, diary, etc. surviving? Given he was killed in action they may have not been returned to the family, but who knows?

Re: Maj. Emil Omert papers
His brother was ground crew IIRC so yes I imagine documents/photo albums survived....

Re: Maj. Emil Omert papers
Hi
Many thanks, do you you know the name of the brother? There was a small collection of his photos sold a while ago, but I do not think they originated from his estate. Rather from someone familiar with him. https://wolfganghistorica.com/produc...ce-emil-omert/ Franek |

Re: Maj. Emil Omert papers
Emil Omert's brother was Reinhold. He arrived in Africa as a mechanic, at that time EO was Staffelkapitän 8./JG 77. After Emil's death Reinhold went to flight school in Göbingen, but was posted to the Fallschirmjäger in October 44 and saw action in the Ardennes but was injured and taken captive on 16 January 45 (shot while trying to surrender in his own account). Sent home November 46. See the JG 77 'special issue' published by Aerojournal (Jan/Feb 2024) which features a few extracts from Omert's 'diary'

Re: Maj. Emil Omert papers
Thanks for pointer!
It looks that someone found the diary, though at the same time it looks he did not keep it up until the end or the later part did not survive as there are no references for 1943. Aside, I have found there a photo of another man, I am interested in. Now, I need to get a better copy. Cheers Franek |
