Re: Fw 190 Schlacht Units
Yes, the bomb is missing its target and the Fw 190 have no chance to pull out of the dive in time .....

Re: Fw 190 Schlacht Units
Wouldn’t an Fw 190 releasing a bomb in that steep a dive risk fouling the propeller? Artists don’t seem to worry about physics: on something I co-wrote way back, the cover painting showed a 190 dropping a bomb while in a banking turn. Maybe a realistic shallow dive with wings level is considered not dramatic enough in design terms?

Fw 190 Schlacht Units
(Osprey Pubslihing - 30 July 2026) by Robert Forsyth. Cover and illustrations by Gareth Hector. Colour profiles by Janusz Swiatlon 96 pages - paperback, ebook and pdf £16.99 "An illustrated account of the Fw 190 'tank-buster' and its operations on the Eastern, Western and Mediterranean Fronts from 1942–45. The Fw 190 offered the Luftwaffe a reliable successor to the Ju 87 Stuka, able to operate from primitive forward airfields in both the freezing winters of the Soviet Union and the desert heat of North Africa. Converted by Focke-Wulf from a radial-engined fighter into a deadly fighter-bomber and ground-attack aircraft, it used its aerial gun platform, wide-tracked undercarriage and powerful BMW engines to devastating effect on the Eastern, Western and Mediterranean Fronts between 1942 and 1945. In this new study, leading Luftwaffe historian Robert Forsyth examines all aspects of the Fw 190 and its career as a 'tank-buster', detailing the considerable damage it wrought upon Allied armour, troop concentrations, bridges and road junctions. First-hand accounts from Schlachtflieger pilots bring to life the operational and tactical histories of the aircraft, and are complemented by archive photos and newly commissioned artwork that vividly demonstrates its technical and ballistic assets." Table of Contents 1. Introduction and the development of the fighter-bomber concept 2. The Fw 190 as a ground-attack aircraft 3. 1943 in the East 4. 1942–43 in the South 5. 1944 in the East 6. 1944 in the South 7. 1944 in the West 8. 1945 in the West and the East Appendices Index https://www.ospreypublishing.com/uk/...9781472867834/ Last edited by Edward; 2nd May 2026 at 03:15. |
