Luftwaffe pows in Russia
I’ve read a number of books mentioning that German airmen entertained captured Soviet airmen. Are there instances of this happening on the Russian side! If it happened early in the war the odds would be that they latter died in captivity so no one would know unless there are Soviet records mentioning it!

Re: Luftwaffe pows in Russia
The Soviets were pretty cagey when a propaganda opportunity presented itself, as was amply demonstrated when they captured Graf von Einsiedel of JG3.

Re: Luftwaffe pows in Russia
BCRS vol 4 pages 247-250 has Soviets entertaining German Experten Hans Hahn in their mess which nearly ended badly for Hahn so to speak.

Re: Luftwaffe pows in Russia
"I've read a number" from where? Sources? Such "easy" discussions cannot be done easily. And highly specific answers to some questions cannot be obtained. Part of the problem stems from Soviet secrecy which is still in effect. The other problem is the introduction of bias into some scholarly works. It should always be removed. It is not history. The author of any book or article cannot be allowed this. IF the Soviets maintained records of ALL German POWs, they are unavailable to researchers.
The following may be helpful. At the least, it provides the necessary perspective: https://jordanrussiacenter.org/blog/...e-soviet-union |
