Tricqueville or Triqueville
Gentlemen,
a question for our French based and speaking members and friends - what is the correct spelling of the place that gave its name for the temporary Einsatzhafen of parts of JG 2, especially I./JG 2 - in German records I have mostly found the name Tricqueville, whereas in contemporary French maps - Michelin - it is spelt without the "c" like Triqueville. Was the German version an older form of the name or was it outright wrong as it happend to many French names in German records ? Having had my share of problems with the correct spelling of French names in the past I'm trying to put it right in Vol 10/IV so that any help will be appreciated. Also if some French member of this board would be so kind as to be prepared to answer to future similar requests off board so that I don't have to bother the whole community each time this sort of problem arises, I would be very grateful. Regards Jochen Prien |

Re: Tricqueville or Triqueville
Hello,
here is the link to Triqueville / Triqueville : http://www.triqueville.org/info/orthographe.htm The 2 spelling are ok and both are used today, although the French administration seems to prefer today Triqueville. Best regards. Eric GUILLAUME |

Re: Tricqueville or Triqueville
Hello
No problem to correct or search for French location names . Triqueville is well known to me as I am living 20 km from the former Luftwffe airfield , I have taken several pictures of the ruins . 4 hangars , concrete basements , water and feul tanks as well as protection bunkers are still in place . Some location or town names are not correctly written in german records or log book . For example , FW Fritz Buchholz , II./JG6, write "DUCLAIR" , as "DUKLAIR" in his log book . He bailed out over this town (10 km from home) on 26 August 1944. All the best Eric |
