Re: Mosquito ML-923
Alain,
I wonder if "Brielen" came up because of the date 28/29.1.45. For a long time there has been a search for the identity of an Allied aircraft that had crashed at that little town outside Ieper (Ypres). The Mosquito may been brought forward to be a candidate. The bomber turned out to be B-17G "42-31536" (92nd BG/326th BS) that came down due to mechanical problems on the return leg from a mission to Cologne. Full narrative by pilot Lt. Charles Lane is available. Site of cemetery of both crew of Mosquito seem to indicate crash location to be in Eastern France after all. Regards, Leendert |
