..as George suggested the more complex sight seems to have been prone to breakdown ..there's another account in the JG 300 history from Hubert Engst who describes having to use the EZ 42 in 'fixed' mode..

The EZ42 manual notes: "Be aware that 1.5 minutes are needed for the gyros to come up to speed, and so give the correct deflection. So, don't switch on the gunsight immediately before combat!"
So, in some cases, pilots might have ignored this, or were drawn into combat before they were ready, and the gyros didn't do their job. |
