Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941
Del,
Have checked the Blitz book and my own records and still can only find two Luftwaffe losses crashing on the UK that night. Is there any chance two sections of one aircraft landed at separate locations and were initially reported as two crashes by the Foresty Commision?. The PRO has records of RAF reports on crashed enemy aircraft if anyone has copies for this night and could check it might help, Regards Brian Bines |

Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941
Hi Brian,
I am in contact with the Forestry Commission about this but they are a bit slow in responding. The two aircraft that were confirmed as crashing locally, although not intact were almost complete. Thanks for your continued interest. Should the FC be able to confirm a crash at Bolderwood I will post all the available details as they don't appear to be widely known |

Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941
Hello Del,
Dont know if this helps but there is another Luftwaffe loss dated 02.05.41 namely a Ju 88 Wnr.2368 (3Z + DS) which came down in the New Forest. This aircraft of KG77 was shot down by F/Lt Budd and Sgt Evans of "A" Flight of No.604 Sqdn. The aircraft crashed at Little Oaks, Highland Water, Lyndhurst. We applied to the MOD during 1992 for a licence to excavate the site but was refused on the grounds that live ordnance MAY still be on board. Regards Melvin Brownless "The Remembrance Society" |

Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941
Hi Gary,
I thought the Epping Forest one was A Ju 88 of 6/LG1 shot down on 8/9-12-1940, the incident was covered in a 'After the Battle' magazine article, Regards Brian Bines |

Re: Losses in the New Forest 1941
Gary,
I like most members of this forum read the latest enteries several times a day. I am sorry to say this but your posts are driving me up the wall, This is certainly not the place or time for a personal attack but please please can you only post when you have something to actually say, you have an opinion on most threads but, say nothing. Its great to have someone so keen, but please try and restrict yourself to informed comments. |
