Re: Italian fighters flew to Russia 1941-1943 (C.S.I.R.)

Thanks, Manlio, for the addtional details on the operations of 119a Squadriglia. Any further incidents/accidents, other then I mentioned?

As for the reported shot down of Capitano Ruspoli on 27 August, I took it from (somewhat vague) indications found in Rumanian archive documents, tied with shootdowns of Rumanian Bf 109Es.

Do you have confirmation of the actual day when Ruspoli claimed a pair of victories in the area ofessa, but was also shot down and force landed (as proven by the photos posted by Ferdinando, too)?

Grazie tutti,

The whole activity of Ruspoli on the East Front is a bit in the mist to me yet, so I can't be more useful right now.

About a deeper help on the accidents, let me a couple of days to check...

ciao

I bounce this thread to ask Manlio (or anyone lese) if he could found new information related to this topic.

This week end is the last chance to insert any corrections/additions to my book manuscript.

Thanks, in advance.

Re: Italian fighters flew to Russia 1941-1943 (C.S.I.R.)

Hi Dénes,

I just realized that the couple of days I took for the check had been quite long...

Anyway:

- on sept 25th, during the transferring flights from Tudora to Kriwoj, a Ca311 of 119 Sq. (serg. magg. Rossi - M.M.11664) due to an engine failure had to land to Wossnessensk, and continued the flight the following day.

- on sept 12th, on the same route, during the transferring flights of 128 Sq. happended the accident of ten. Vodret... but I'm almost sure you already know about it.

As far as I know no any other accidents on Bessarabian fields.

Best wishes for your book, what is it about? And what did you discover about Cap. Ruspoli downed by russian fighters?

ciao

No, I don't know about this one. Do you have any details (as airfield, damage, etc.)?

The book I am currently finishing is about the air activity on the Southern Flank of the Eastern Front, between August-October 1941. See details here:

(Never mind the cover shown here. It will be a quite different one).

This particular photo will be included in my upcoming book.
By the way, on a larger photo two I.A.R. 80s can actually be seen.
