III./JG 51 Losses

Hi guys

Congratulations to Eugen for his efforts. Concerning the combat of 5 July 1943 it appears that there are no losses listed for III./JG 51 that day. The losses that I have for JG 51 are:

Fw 190 A-5 "White 5" (W.Nr. 0157 248) flown by Feldwebel Josef Jennewein of 1./JG 51 damaged by Flak over Sloboda 20%
Fw 190 A-5 (W.Nr. 0157 210) of 2./JG 51 damaged by groundfire over Sloboda 30%
Fw 190 A-4 (W.Nr. 0147 124) of 2./JG 51 suffered technical damage at PQ 63 371 15%

I hope that you guys find this interesting. Many thanks for the details on the aerial combat.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: VVS Top pilots: some tables from M.Bykov's book

Hello Leo,

Actually, there were several losses reported by III./JG 51 on 5 July 1943. The excellent site of Pawel Burchard provides the following losses of III. Gruppe on this date:

5/7/1943 Fw 190A-5 W.Nr. 7353 7./J.G. 51
Feindbeschuss Slowitzki 80% F
5/7/1943 Fw 190A-5 W.Nr. 7284 8./J.G. 51
Feindbeschuss, Pl.Qu. 63359 15% F
5/7/1943 Fw 190A-5 W.Nr. 7282 8./J.G. 51
Bracke, Fw. Walter -- verwundet
Feindbeschuss, Pl.Qu. 63322 100% F
5/7/1943 Fw 190A-4 W.Nr. 2426 (braun 7) 9./J.G. 51 -- G.Aders says 3./J.G. 51 (braun)
Schmitz, Uffz. Hermann -- vermisst
Luftkampf. N Maloarchangelsk 100% F

As this was a very hectic day, I would be very careful in drawing any conclusions on who could have shot down who.

Hope this helps a little,

Ota

JG 51 Losses

Hello Ota

Many thanks for the additional III./JG 51 losses. Like you, I wonder how Gorbach concluded that Strassl was the one who shot down Kapitan Vladimir Zalevskiy. Are there any additional details that could prove this was the case?

Horrido!

Leo

Michal, Thanks for the reply. There seems to be some websites with Kozachenko being shot down by fighters and making a ramming for his 16th victory before going to his death. They also have him in listed in a Yak-9D or Airacobra. One even suriving and doing service in the Middle East.
