Capitaine Georges Lautier, Armée de l'Air
I am looking for any details of service history for Capitaine Georges Lautier whose tunic and cap I have in my collection. His tunic is named and dated for 1939 as a Capitaine. He wears three awards including the Legion d'Honneur (chevalier), Croix de Guerre (WWI) and what appears to be the US Distinguished Service Cross (??!!). If you can help, please comment. I have no rosters for the Armée de l'Air.

Re: Capitaine Georges Lautier, Armée de l'Air
Does anyone have a roster of French pilots in 1939? Does anyone know what the last award is that this pilot is wearing?
Thanks, Tod

Re: Capitaine Georges Lautier, Armée de l'Air
Hello Tod!
Again, congratulations for the magnific piece of History! It is, a wonderful clothing. I am afraid this Captain George Lautier was a former WW1 pilot. You can see on the site above, that he is not mentioned as a WW2 pilot. The other point that leads me to believe he probably flew in WW1 OR on any Campaign during the 20-30´s is that the cloth you acquired is dated December 1939. The DSC ( If this is really the DSC ribbon ) can lead us to search any kind of relationship with the American Air Force in WW1. Maybe he was a former Flight Instructor or Flight Commander with US Air Forces in WW1. I will try to check the WW1 possibility for you, but do have no time available the next couple of days. Please wait, ok? Meanwhile, have a check on this site: http://www.cieldegloire.com/as_39_45...te1.php#france Yours very friendly From Brazil Adriano PS: Happy new year for you and your family. I am happy to see that people like you do share with others your acquisitions in the form of a Museum. You certainly have made a lot of other people happy too...Keep going, this is a wonderful job of yours. |

Re: Capitaine Georges Lautier, Armée de l'Air
I did not find his name in the register of the french air force active officers of 1940. So there is a great probability that he was in the reserve.

Dear Remi,
What do your rosters cover? Officers? Warrant Officers? NCOs? I have other names to submit. Tod

Re: Capitaine Georges Lautier, Armée de l'Air
I am sorry but I do not inderstand what "NCO" (non commisssioned officer ?) and "warrant" mean exactly in french.
I have three official registers of all the officers of the french air force from the lieutenants to the generals (1942, 1950 and 1960). |

Rémi, NCO c'est sous-officier et "warrant", aspirant.

Re: Capitaine Georges Lautier, Armée de l'Air
OK, I just got this info from another forum:
From the 'Annuaire national des officiers de réserve 1931-1932" : LAUTIER (G. E. M.) lieutenant Armée de l'Air, , 42 rue de l'Abbé de l'Epée à Marseille. He was a reserve officer. But what was his service that he would receive the awards he has? What did he do in WWI? Hmm.
