Re: Photos 1-9

Hello,

First, thank you Ed for the great effort and wonderful photos.

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=300189217516
The photo showing the tail of Bf 109E-7 WNr.4217 is marked below as "Major Handrick". Could this be his plane with 25 victory bars?
Under the assumption that all the three photos in this lot were taken at the same day, we could assume that they were taken on/after the 10. July 1941 - on this date Hptm. Ihlefeld achieved his 46th victory. At that time Maj. Gotthard Handrick already transfered from Gruppenkomandeur of the III./JG52, to Geschwaderkommodore of the JG77. Around the 10. July 1941, both units ,I.(J)/LG2 and Stab/JG77 were stationed on Jassy airfield.
WNr.4217 was later on damaged in a crashlandung at Eupatoria with the 15.(kroat)/JG52.

best regards,
Tomislav

Re: Photos 1-9

And in the background you can see an Emil marked with Gruppen Kommandeur chevrons ....... the plot thickens....

So TWO Gruppen Kommandeurs aircraft on one photo, not unkown but rare.

Regards

Chris

Peter,
I guess, that is a Klemm 28 flown by Liesel Bach, a famous German aerobatic pilot.
Best wishes
Robert

Edit:
Just found a picture of this rare bird. I think that's it.

Re: Photos 1-9

Hi,

the Emil WNr.4217 was probably flown by Lt.Friedrich Geisshardt (24th victory on the 07.07.41) - so this another bird from stI(J)/LG2.

Regards

Robert
