Hi, 1. I believe the Skua is L2963 from 803. Sq Fleet Air Arm which crashed at Froesetskjaeret, Byneset, in connection with the less successful attack on Scharnhorst and Gneisenau (which had already sailed) at Trondheim. The attack is mentioned in Aeroplane December 2007 in the "Blackburn Skua & Roc Data Base" article. A more in depth article on this particular June 13, 1940, attack can be found in Aeroplane August 2007 More photos and info here: http://ktsorens.tihlde.org/flyvrak/frosetskjaeret.html 2. Sold also last year: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=290202533425 Another photo of this aircraft showing the engine cowling as well, indicates it is an aircraft of I./JG 53 as the "Ace of Spades" emblem on the engine cowling is clearly visible. 3. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=150210506459 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=150210505685 The above are not "Stukageschwader 2 Immelmann" Bf 109 Es of course, as it is JG 1. Re: Photos 2-1
Hi,
note the camouflage it`s pointing for late 1940 or early 1941 and it`s not typical for the I/JG53 in this period. The 2/JG53 in late 1940 had transparent numbers or the shape of the number was considerable smaller than this one. Beside this I saw a bunch of photos in one private collection taken by the I/JG53 in late 1940 and the fighters had no JG53 emblem. Regards Robert |

Re: Photos 2-1
Thanks Robert!
By the way, the photo of this ac with the nose uncovered shows a yellow cowling with the unit emblem imposed. Looking for ErgGr/JG 53 I found a photo captioned as "...3./ErgJGr Süd in March 1942..." showing a Bf 109 E with Yellow nose and "The Ace of Spades" emblem on the engine cower Ref. Carlsen and Meyer, "Die Flugzeugführer Ausbildung der Deutschen Luftwaffe 1935-1945 Band II", P.210 Cheers, Goran |
