Search for a german Fighterpilot
Hello,
i search for a german Fighterpilot with the not common Name Scheschonka. This man is related to me. He was an officer maybe an Hauptmann or Major. 1945 was his station in Schleswig-Holstein near the danish border. Unfortunaly i don't know his unity. Between March and May he was shot down by Spitfire's but he survived. Hope anybody can help me with details. Regards Fireship |

Re: Search for a german Fighterpilot
Hello,
it`s a mystery, but the story is true. My grandfather told me this story. He know this man. Maybe he was not a Fighterpilot? Regards Frieship |

Re. Search for a German Fighterpilot
I don’t think Chris Goss is right in saying that there was not a Scheschonka on the 1945 Ranklist. Stabsfeldwebel Wilhelm SCHESCHONKA of 15 Staffel of IV/JG3 (Udet Geschwader) was killed on January 14th, 1945 during a dogfight over east Holland. There was a big fight between the Luftwaffe and American Fighter Groups (P-51’s) during that morning and the following afternoon. Scheschonka was shot down and his Focke Wulf Fw-190A-8 crashed near Mariënvelde in the east of Holland at about 0230 hrs PM. Scheschonka fell at about 200 meters from his plane with his parachute unopened. We did excavate his plane in September 1979 which was complete conserved in the earth. The wreckage is on display in our museum. The Official German Los list say about Scheschonka: “Died on 14 January 1945 dogfight near Deelen (Arnhem)” If this should be the Scheschonka you’re looking for (you didn’t mention his first name) I have more details later. Peter Monasso-secretary AVOG’s Crash Museum - Lievelde Holland. Sorry for the delay but I recovered this site just a few days ago ! |

Re: Search for a german Fighterpilot
The Wilhelm Scheschonka who died on 14/01/1945 must be another Scheschonka than the Scheschonka who was shot down ' Between March and May by Spitfire's' and survived.

Re: Search for a german Fighterpilot
In general: if your grandfather --who meanwhile doesn’t live anymore-- sothat what you remember he told you maybe so many years ago all details such as rank date of crash and location of being lost etc. etc. are most times so vague and mixed up and realizing that the name Scheschonka is quite rare indeed there could be a match ! Indications from most grandfathers recollection must be taken not so strict….

Re: Search for a german Fighterpilot
Hello Bart,
Of course I know because I started with Google putting in the name Scheschonka that's why I ended up at this site, BUT: this is the situation with the name Scheschonka nowadays (and you see at Google there are Scheschonka's mentioned all over the world) and our question is: have there been 2 or more Scheschonka's within the Luftwaffe during Jan-May 1945?? And that would be rare however possible indeed. I hope Fireship will mention the first name of the Scheschonka he's looking for. Regards, Peter Monasso |
