Re: 1 Sqn on 16 August 1940
Damn, the Scotland Yard has a competing bussiness !
Do you all agree with an epilogue that P/O J.F.D. „Tim“ Elkington was very probably s/d by Oblt. Wick of 3./JG 2 ? Michal |

Re: 1 Sqn on 16 August 1940
I will double-check primary source for timing and come back.
Meanwile, here is Tim's control column recovered in 1976. Sadly, this was stolen from Tangmere c.1984/5. If anyone can provide information leading to its whereabouts and its return I will pay a handsome reward. Glad that we were able to give Tim his DI face, though, which is proudly stuck in his Logbook on the relevant entry. Last edited by Andy Saunders; 23rd March 2010 at 14:40. |

Re: 1 Sqn on 16 August 1940
I suppose it makes no difference, but perhaps better than being "bagged" by a sprog pilot on his first op!? I think you should look at it as a kind of badge of honour, Tim, if it was the great man himself who notched you up on his rudder!!

Re: 1 Sqn on 16 August 1940
Attached is a reconstruction of Hurricane IIA, Z2482 used by Tim (and by number of Czechoslovak airmen too) in March 1941 in Kenley, for a cover of new Revi issue.
