Re: Making available an archive of NVMs and research materials wanted on the Polish Campaign.

Larry,

Would it be possible to scan these and have them hosted somewhere on the internet? I'd probably be willing to do the same with my small collection of these as well.

Re: Making available an archive of NVMs and research materials wanted on the Polish Campaign.

Jim,

I'd given some thought to that, but some of these have multiple pages to them and scanning, editing and posting that volume of materials, plus paying the cost of hosting this material, is way beyond what I'm interested in doing. Also, as I said, I don't want to piss off the WASt. I have no idea how they would react to having this material posted on the net.

Regards

I see your point - and even with some type of login security it might be problematic. However copying and mailing certainly would be expensive as well. However one-time scanning and allowing some type limited time/IP address access to those files with you being the gatekeeper, i.e. requests to access through you or your team for approval, via some type of FTP/SFTP might be possible - I'm not entirely sure how that all works exactly, but it may be worth exploring. It would probably be cheaper than the photocopy/mail option.

Then again you could also scan once and load to CD/DVD as required. That may be the simplest way to go. The KISS principal is usually a the best.

As the late-1939 to mid-1941 time period is not exactly my field of research (with a few exceptions), all I would like to say at this point is that Larry's offer is very generous and it would be a great assistance to the aviation research comunity. Thanks, Larry, for thinking strategically, and considering helping other historians' work. Great and generous thought.

P.S. I would also consider the electronical avenue, as Jim suggested, as it's probably the cheapest and quickest way of sharing information.
