FW187s and Me210s over Dieppe???

Is it possible that FW187s and Me210s were operating in the skies over Dieppe in August 1942?

41 Squadron's ORB states that pilots spotted in a gap in the clouds what they thought was either an FW187 or Me210, but I am extremely doubtful whether this was actually the case. I think it was more likely a mis-identification of a Do217.

Would I be correct in making such a statement?

Thanks
Steve

Apparently 3 Me 210s appeared over Dieppe, of one returned to base damaged. But, that's a WAG. Hopefully someone else will have a more detailed note on that day.

Steve

It is possible that Me 210s of 16/KG 6 made an appearance over Dieppe but no positive evidence

Thanks Chris and Nick

It looks like I might have to leave the ORB's statement on the sighting alone and not make any conclusions on what it may or may not really have been.

Thanks
Steve

Re: FW187s and Me210s over Dieppe???

Gents,

I posted a thread on the possibility of Me210's of Erprobungstaffel 210 opposing the Dieppe raid in May last year. I had found a POW interrogation report in TNA document AIR 40/2411 (not so much a WAG, but more an unsupported possibility).

The prisoner remarked that the staffel deployed three aircraft in response to the raid; one was damaged in the engine and made a 'crash landing' on return. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any further information to confirm or deny this, but seeing as how various other Netherlands based units were involved it's possible the aircraft were despatched.

Regards,

Steve

Steve was the Me210 observation made during 41 Squadron's 1235- 1405 mission?
