Doubt very much that this:

http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=310128026143

is from JG 5. If indeed it is from the Far North it is from 1.(F)/124 which had a few G-4/R-3s (but never enough, I have reports where they ask for replacement aircraft and it did take a long time before they got them - can't see them being "wasted" as fighters!).

Regards,

Kjetil

Hei!

Could it be from 1.(F)/AGr 120? They had three Bf 109 G-4/R3 from May 1943 ( http://www.ww2.dk/oob/bestand/aufkl/b1ag120.html ). AFAIK they got codes from the end of alphabet: A6+X,Y,Z H. Or perhaps also W was used - A6+WH???? Which would make the "W" seen under the wingtip on the photo a tactical code instead of Stkz?

Cheers,
Kari

Yes, you could be right, Kari. Good thinking there, regarding the codes!

Only thing is I cannot see any trace of an "A6" code on the fuselage, but it is dark so it could very well be obscured.

Wonder what kind of restriction on manouvres those tanks introduced!?
