Clash of Wings

I have just purchased a four-DVD set entitled Clash of Wings after having seen one episode on the Military Channel re: the air war over the Atlantic Ocean which including many combat scenes of German aircraft which I had never seen before. A search on the internet revealed that it was only available in Britain in PAL format which was no problem for me since I own two DVD players which will play all types of formats.

Today I watched the second episode covering the Battles of France and Britain, 1940, where there was some new footage, including the aircraft of Werner Mölders with the chevrons of Gruppen Kommandeur of III./JG 53 during the Battle for France with the unusual camouflage of RLM 71 and 02.

The episodes are narrated by various individuals representing their nations' air forces and the series is based on Walter Boyne's book of the same title.

One disappointment is that the usual German aircraft are depicted under fire and recorded by gun camera allegedly during the BOB including the usual Fw 190s and Bf 109Gs. Also during the same time frame are scenes of Bf 109Fs from Russia and North Africa.

Re: Clash of Wings

Sylvester, I agree. Just saw one episode and extremely impressed with the footage and historical footnotes.

Where did you purchase the DVD set from? I'd like to do the same. I'm sending you a PM in case you aren't reading this thread any longer.

Thanks.
