Re: US P-51 Pilot Alfred Fontes, 363rd FG, 8.4.44

Rüdiger,

I have no details about the circumstances of this P-51 loss, but 2nd Alfred Fontes (O-808645) was neither KIA or MIA.

He was POW at Stalag Luft 1, according to the online NARA database.

Lt Fontes was from Providence, Rhode Island, was born in 1922 and enlisted on 30 March 1942.
Apparently involved in a belly landing at Hamilton Field, CA, on 28 July 1943 in P-39Q 42-19886.

Regards,

Leendert
