Query: Uffz. Arno Zimmerman 7/JG54 2.9.40

Hi Everybody, Uffz. Zimmerman claimed a Spitfire kill on 2.9.40 at 13.45. Can anybody confirm where it was in U.K. and any other details to go with the claim ? Also does anyone have a list of sorties flown by 9/JG54 on 2.9.40 around lunchtime. Thanks for any information supplied.
Best Wishes, Bill

Hi

The III./JG 54 fly cover for the IV./KG 54 to Eastchurch (12.55 - 14.00 Uhr). The tree claims was made from the 7.Staffel, probably on the return from the action. One another action goes to Hornchurch (16.45 - 17.45 Uhr), cover for Do 17 (KG 3?).

Greetings Christian

A face to the name!

Here is Arno Zimmerman, and the aircraft he was eventually downed in over Kent.

The latter is probably familiar to many, but possibly not the portrait.

Just to add a little interest!

Re: Query: Uffz. Arno Zimmerman 7/JG54 2.9.40

Thank you Christian and Andy, Both very useful replies and a very nice touch to have a photo as well ! One more query, does anyone know if there was any Jabo action from 9/JG54 on this date and what time would that raid be ? I'm trying to find out about Oblt. Richard Hausmann's claim for a Hurricane kill (unconfirmed) on the same day. Once again, many thanks, Bill

Bill, have you checked After The Battle's Battle Of Britain, Now and Then? Also, their Blitz Over Britain, Volume 1.

Re: Query: Uffz. Arno Zimmerman 7/JG54 2.9.40

Hello and thank you again Christian,
A very helpful reply, is there a book that will tell me of all the raids of the Luftwaffe with targets and times, as you supplied. At the moment I'm interested in the Kanalgeschwader for the Battle of Britain but it would be useful for future reference. Best Wishes, Bill
