Re: KG26 operations 1940

hello Jim
I am just investigating the background of He111H-4 1H+BM (wnr 3294) from Geschw. 4/KG26 that turned up at Schiphol (Amsterdam) in the night of 6/7 sept 1940. Any details on the incident?

regards
dick w

Re: KG26 operations 1940

Dick,

Here is what I currently have on file:

4./KG26 Heinkel He111H-4 (3294). Shot down by own flak outside Amsterdam-Schiphol on return from night sortie and crashed into houses in the Henegouwshelaan, Nieuwer-Amstel, 11.50 p.m. HS Uffz Ludwig Kohlhepp and HS Obergefr Friedrich Gottschalk both killed, BO Oberlt Ehrenfried Bischoff and rest of crew believed unhurt. Aircraft 1H+BM 100% write-off.
A woman, five of her children, and two German soldiers were killed in this incident with three more civilians being badly burned. (He111 ‘3294’ also listed September 14 as 3./KG4 5J+BL ?)

Brian,

The information you want is available (in part) in BAMA file RM7/359.

Re: KG26 operations 1940

Hi Peter

Please excuse my ignorance but where do I find the BAMA file you mention?

Also, any chance you can provide the forenames of Luftwaffe aircrew on my other recent post?

Cheers
Brian
